BabyWaves is a baby care tracker we built at Hardcode Studios for parents and caregivers. It runs as a web app at babywaves.hardcode-studios.com, with an Android companion on Google Play.
The problem it solves
In the first months with a baby, the basic questions come up all day. When was the last feed? Which side? How long did that nap last? Was the nappy changed before the handover?
The answers usually live in someone's head, a notebook or a family chat thread. That works until more than one person is involved, which is almost always. Parents, grandparents and other carers each hold part of the picture, and nobody has all of it.
BabyWaves puts those records in one private timeline, so anyone caring for the baby can see what happened and when.
What we built
The home screen is a set of large, colour-coded tiles for the things parents log most: sleep, feeds, winds, pumping, nappies, notes and growth. Sleep, feed, winds and pumping each have a timer on the tile, so a session can be started straight from the home screen and stopped later.
Around that core we added:
- Detailed logging. Feeds cover breastfeeding, bottle feeds and solids. Growth has its own tile for logging measurements. Notes cover the small things worth remembering.
- A shared timeline with reports. Entries roll up into a daily view and summaries, which is what caregivers actually look at when handing over.
- Family accounts. A household registers once, under a family display name.
- View-only sharing. Parents can invite grandparents or other carers with a view-only link, so they can follow along without editing access.
- Photos and reminders. Optional photo attachments, a gallery, and reminders.
- A devices view. Parents can see which devices have signed in to the account.
How it is delivered
BabyWaves is a progressive web app, so it installs from the browser and behaves like an app on a phone. The same product is wrapped for Android and published on Google Play under Hardcode Studios.
For a business, that approach matters. It means one product to maintain and improve, reachable in the browser and through the app store, rather than two separate builds drifting apart.
There is a free tier for everyday tracking and an optional paid tier, BabyWaves Plus, with higher limits and extras such as longer report ranges and CSV export. Payments run through Google Play or by card on the web.
Privacy and trust, built in
Baby data is personal, so the product is set up as private family tracking, not a social feed. BabyWaves has a published privacy policy, terms of service and an account and data deletion page, which Google Play requires for its Data safety section. The Play listing declares that data is encrypted in transit and that users can request deletion.
The terms are also clear that BabyWaves is an organisational tool, not medical advice, and that families should speak to a clinician about health concerns. Getting that wording right is part of shipping a responsible product, not an afterthought.
Why this matters if you are weighing us up
BabyWaves is a consumer app, but the building blocks are the same ones most businesses need:
- Quick, structured logging on a phone, designed for people who are busy and distracted.
- A single timeline that several people can rely on.
- Roles and permissions, including read-only access for people outside the core team.
- Reports, reminders and exports.
- App store publishing, subscriptions and the compliance paperwork that comes with them.
Swap feeds and naps for site visits, maintenance checks or client sessions, and the shape of the problem is familiar. We build the working product first, get it into real hands, then keep improving it. BabyWaves is a live example of that approach.
